The Story Of Boutique Beauty

BARGAIN HUNTING

Ever since I was a little girl my parents took me to charity shops, I loved them, always a surprise and a story with every piece of clothing or jewellery I picked up . And the conversation… WOW.

They didn’t take me there due to lack of funds, but because they taught me to be resourceful, to turn something from basically nothing, using my imagination and a bit of hard work. Also to show me that just because it had been used doesn’t mean it isn’t useful anymore.

Have you ever noticed how employees in 2nd hand, charity or vintage, even – country Style shops and boutiques are so friendly?

I remember one day I was trying on an evening dress for a party we were going to, I was excited as I was actually buying the dress with my own money from my paper round. I heard my mum talking to the lady and gentleman running the shop about where we were going, there was me in the changing room excited, as I thought I looked lovely. However, recent trips to high-street stores had left my confidence low from the changing room attendants. I needn’t be worried, as when my mum called me out, the lady instantly exclaimed and started getting me to move around and helped find accessories to match. The personalised attention eased my nerves and I walked out of the shop with a whole outfit including heels, coat, bag and jewellery for less than £20..

What resonated with me the most was, the passion and basic social pleasantries needed for a happy transaction did NOT lesson with he price I was paying. Yet, I’ve been to high street shops where the service, pleasantries and general customer service were definitely not comparative to the higher price.

My conclusion after nearly 12 years of manic research and analysing social behaviour?

Enjoy what you do, have passion for what you do, be honest, use what you promote and above all be genuine and unique.

And Then Entered AVON

Avon has a rich and empowering history that not many people are aware of!

34 years before women in the U.S earned the right to vote, Avons founder, David McConnell was a travelling book salesperson. He designed his way to success and fame by giving perfume samples to his female customers. How cool is that, and how ahead of time in terms of marketing! He realised if he combined the free perfume samples with his books and recruit them as sales representatives the personal approach would work!  From a relatively small office in NYC he mixed the companies first fragrance himself.

Avon has been empowering women for over 130 years…

And Enter Honest Beauty.

Im claiming full imaginative rights to EVERYTHING! (not really)

Let me quickly explain.

I met my fiancé after being childhood sweethearts, we unfortunately were split up in middle school when he moved back to Norfolk. 21 years later and he arrives back in my home Town of Milton Keynes. Three years later, in June 2020, (now), we have plans to get married, and we haven’t been separated since.

Within three years we had built our own mini empire with myself being integrated into my full time career, working in strategic marketing overseas in my own little social media bubble.

Building Honest Beauty became a passion as well as a business. Yes. A business, because that is what Avon is. A wonderful network of people promoting Avon products for their value for money and the quality of the product itself. As one of the biggest cosmetics companies on the planet, Avon is the beauty industry and the beauty industry is Avon.

AND NOW

Boutique Beauty Mystery Makeup Box. Shop Avon

So now you know how I met my fiancé, what you don’t know is, among a few of his talents in design, the one that makes me all, weak at the knees are his websites.

When we were going through the design process for Boutique Beauty, a lot of the aesthetics were, as normal with the client designer process lead by the client and edited by the designer, but I’m no ordinary client., I’m also a designer! This can make things very difficult, however me and Phil are like peas and carrots…we go together so well when it comes to design and our relationship, that what you get is an explosion of design, fun, originality and well, me, which happens to be what he is about too, I mean a connection is a connection, and when it works it works. All in all the website was a collaborative process of imagination and what people want.

And thats where I always slip up and say BOOTIQUE  BOOTY, its the Norfolk Broad coming out in me!

The Concept

Pick a box fitting what you want, knowing that every item is full sized and the content in the box will be worth more than what you pay. With a selection of boxes to fit nearly every situation you cant go wrong.

Why did I decide to do this? I was seeing them adverts come up on FB, you know the ones, saying about a box of make up delivered to your door. The funny thing was, I was doing this already but only to those that lived near me. I looked at some of the boxes and the products were just, well, sub par. They were tiny,  and in most cases you only got four products! Clearly something was not right and I was horrified with the pretence you got when you see the boxes online to what you get through the door, especially the cost!

One of my biggest gripes with things are honesty and transparency, I hate people being ripped off… luckily I also believe that if you’re in a position to effect change regardless how small then you should do what you can. I couldn’t be who I was if I could effect change but didn’t, in my eyes that isn’t the mark of the person I want to be.
